I installed it in a 1999 Fatboy with D&D Fat exhaust. Jun 18, 2007·The EI coils had a higher internal resistance than the points coils to prevent excessive current draw through the EI system. If the coil gets hot to the touch then I would hook the dropping resister back up. The EI matchboxes are tough but they weren't designed for use with a low impedance coil and could crap out any time.

Contact supplierI just wanted to mention that, as far as coil on the shelf goews. the super stock has been a super champion. learning ignition on a very very tight toleranced asian vehicle is an act of patience.(ie: the mag pickup is .010 or it skips a cylinder)

Good quality coils, problems stopped, up until about a month ago. IN the last month, numerous Accel coils, 8140 and 8140C, were coming up either new defective or had operating issues like missing, erratic idle, no performance.

I will pick up a Pertronix Flamethrower coil in a larger city, but if this could get me back on the road that would be great.

Contact supplierJun 06, 2017·( the coil will self regulate it'self ) this way the coil and pertronix both get same voltage12V Using the stock resistor wire after all these years realize was a bad thing. ( must use 1.5 ohm coil) w/ the new 3.0 ohms engine runs better now.
